Thread: Server Admin?

We would really appreciate you would be more active on the forums for you to join the server admin team, and also get to know more of the other admins too. 35 posts is a bare minimum that shouldn't be too hard to meet in a few weeks, don't forget you can't simply spam "haha lolz" all the time tho

besides knowing us, we also need a way to check your ability to recognize hackers etc. and there's a very good way to do so currently (besides the obvious "call an admin when there's a hacker".

I posted a thread on how you can report hackers while there are no admins (link to the thread is in my signature), basically you record a hacker, while providing a way for us to know for sure who he is, then you send us the demo and we can take action later

Overall, activity should help your case, and I'm sure that if you put some effort into it you could very well join our ranks in the near future

Well, i don't know how often you're on the server and at which time you play, but i bet you're not at fpsol-xfire-group. cause so you wouldn't say you didn't see more than 2 or 3 of us. I remember the last few days where 3 admins were online at the same time. Maybe you have not seen us cause some of us don't wear the #fps-tag all the time. especially, i'm mostly undercover cause most of the hacker immediately leave when they see a possible admin.

Guys just so you know Lant probably is there alot of the time when we arent but we are not at fault for that its because he is on 24/7

Lant is always contacting me over xfire
he is always cool to talk to
he never breaks rules
he can spot wallhacks from skill
he should know the commands from seeing me use them that often
he would be a good candidate But
he does not have 35 posts so GL posting takes me like less than a week to get that amount of posts

oh 1 crucial thing: you have to be at least 16, but i'm guessing that's the case

Lant is like 46 so don't worry; he's not like 12 and what is this. I know him and he does indeed know how to spot a hacker and most certainly can tell the difference between skill/luck and hacks.

He is a member of the FPS Overload Xfire group... there are times when there is not a single admin online in the group, and also times when there are a few, but it is common that the only admins online are either AFK or not accepting Xfire friend invites. Which leads me to another point that I will discuss at the end of this post... but yeah, the server attracts a load of hackers daily, and when the players wish to volunteer themselves to be a slave to protecting the server to help the server, I believe this should be encouraged more than you are currently encouraging it, as these players are not volunteering themselves for personal gain. In the end, a post count means nothing; when confronted by an eager volunteer, do the Red Cross check their post count first? The point is, the server is a terrible place when there are no admins online, someone wishing to help make it a better place at such times should be welcomed, not questioned and made to earn a title that they're not desiring for personal gain...

Anyway, as promised: I've been meaning to bring up, as server admins, you have volunteered yourselves to protect the server. Whether that means getting rid of hackers that you encounter yourselves, or acting in response to a call for help via Xfire. So, why is it that there are members of the FPS Overload admin group who are not accepting friend invites? Surely if you wish to help the server you would accept invites so that hackers can be reported? Is that not why the Xfire group is there? So my plea is that any admins in the Xfire group should either begin accepting all Xfire invites, or remove themselves from the group's admin group. Infact, why bother being an admin if you don't want to help the players rid the sever of hackers? It's frustrating when there is a hacker on the sever and the only admins online are not attempting to be helpful.

Technically, by joining the fpsol group you don't need to send a friend invite to any admins, because you're basically adding them all at once by joining.

also, we have the post count because we prefer having players who show a real interest in the servers AND its community. Otherwise we get tons of applications with "hi I rul3z, h4x0rz sux, me admin k?".
Also, we need to trust that person with admin rights, if we'd let any newcomer get his hands on the !permban and !tempban command, imagine what could happen. this brings us to the matureness of the person we allow to become admin, we don't want people who are very eager to "help", but create a mess afterwards because "player A pwned him so I perm/tempban him just for that".

The only way for a normal member to help is to report the hackers (and again I refer to my thread linked in my signature). If there's really no admin around, record the hacker, use !listids and send it to us.

tip: by using this report "feature", you actually show us your hack-spotting skills too (just like when you would call us over on xfire), so the more you report the better it is for any future application

There are many many threads on the forum about server admin applications, from 10 year olds asking how to apply, to in depth discussions on the application process. In the past we've had problems with server admins, regarding hacking, password leaking, and so on. None of this looks good for FpsOverload, nor does it help remove the hackers. This is why we are weary of new admins, who have no activity on the site.

We are all quite aware of the amount of hackers that the server attracts, and all our admins are trying to reduce that, but not everybody has the time to be on for hours especially in busy parts of the year. I don't think it is very fair to compare us to an organisation like the Red Cross and an admin position does result in personal gain, albiet not much.

The application process starts when the user first registers on the site, due to the past we've had, first impressions are important, the users username, and the posts they make will really help us get to know the person, and decide whether we would like them on our admin team, if we don't encourage people, yet they still want to become an admin, what does that show about the person? Does it show they're going to leave us, or go rouge with control over the server?

I don't want administrations in my servers who can't be bothered to put some time into the site, there is ALOT more to FpsOverload than its servers.

And, like Galak said there are always ways to let the admins ban hackers, even if they are not online. Please remember there is an admin application form, for when/if you would like to apply, a forum thread is not an app.
