Hi there
whether you're actively participating in the forums or not, if you're on here it probably means you are active on our servers.
Now and again, we receive threads about hackers ruining the fun of the servers etc. etc., that admins aren't there in time, or that there are simply enough not enough admins.
In some way, they are right. There will never be enough admins to cover a whole 24/7 timeframe. Why? We have lives too! (yes we do. Believe us.)
However, coming to the forums yelling about hackers won't resolve any problems. What is there to do then you might ask?
Well firstly, join our fpsol xfire group! this can be found here: FpsOverload Xfire Group< Clickety here!. Even if there are no admins on the servers, chances are there are some online, so you might catch one there. Simply ask him to come to the servers to ban the hacker.
But what if there is no admin? What if no admin replies to your call (they are all AFK?)
all hope is not lost, because YOU can help us ban players, even if an admin couldn't catch him in time!
Our b3 administration plugin keeps a record (an ID, tied to the GUID (cd-key) of your game) of EVERYONE who connects to the server, even hackers. This means that even if that player isn't online anymore, we CAN ban him forever and ever and ever.
So, how should you report hackers?
STEP 1
TAKE A DEMO of the hacker. If you don't know how to do so, please read this: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9812294/HowToRecordCoD4.txt
A demo will give us proof that the person in question was hacking. No demo = no ban. we need to have proof.
HOWEVER even if you have a demo, the only thing we could know from that is the hackers name. If the name is something really common, like say "god" (we have 222 records of players called "god") we wouldn't know who exactly to ban.
WHILE you are recording, TYPE !listids in chat. This will give you all the unique ID's of the players currently on the server, including yours and of course, the hacker's.
This way, we can be ABSOLUTELY certain we're banning the hacker.
Remember! NO !listids = NO ban! WE NEED IT.
STEP 2
please rename the demo file to the name of the hacker (or part of it if the name is too long/hard to remember), then you can upload it here: http://fpsoverload.com/servers/report.php
This will send the file to ALL admins, who will then be able to review the demo file, and decide whether or not it was indeed a hacker.
That's it! Feel like this is too much work? Well then don't come whining about hackers on the forums.
