Thread: Strategy Games

Hey guys,
i'm searchin' for one or two good (!) strategy games to play.
In the past i couldn't stay up to date with the development of this games. So i hope you have some good suggestions for me which strategy game YOU like and why. Do you have some pros and cons ? maybe a very balanced unit-battleforce or loooooong gameplay.

the last strat-game i played constantly was C&C Generals ( the REAL generals! not the cutted one :p ) and one anno-part. Dunno which exactly, maybe some of you don't know the anno-series cause it's mostly known in germany and austria. :p

Just tell me YOUR favorite strat-game and the pros and cons.

Well I don't have a lot, but I did like the Age of Empires series... there's just some minor problems I find

1. Not THAT large armies (unit caps at 250 or so, and some units take more than 1 spot)
2. LOTS of micromanagement, although AoE III has that a tiny bit less
3. if you're not going to play online, I find the AI always overpowered once you get more than "moderate" difficulty. if you go past that, it's like the computer has already maxed out their full armies while you're still trying to get to Age 2.
4. Campaign is ok, although a bit repetitive (always the same idea, build army, destroy this target)

haha ralle, the c&c was only censored in germany try warcraft 3, civiliation 4, and if you like age of mythology.

edit: Oh forgot pros and cons:

Wc3:
pro: Easy to understand, fast gameplay
cons: Not so many units, may become boring after a while

Civilization 4
pro: Huge amount of technologies and units. you can start as cavemen and end in the modern time. Really fun to play and quite complex
contra: requires a lot of time

I hate strat games!
But my friends love it they play HoN and WoW both are online games but IDK enough to tell you more maybe google em.

WOW is rather RPG then strategy. Actually every game requires a bit of strategy (even Mario Kart )

Starcaft (1 or 2), League of Legends, online Poker, and online Chess.

yeah i know, i hate the USK for that. bunch of crackwhores >.< how's civ4? it's based on rounds or am i wrong?
and i don't like warcraft, like all strats with fantasy-characters, that's the point why i can't find any good game xD

Galak, what's the latest AoE ? part 3? the last one i played was with canons and the dumb "let's stay in a row, wait until the enemy stands in front of us and then we shoot each other, yeah!" :s

someone tried supreme commander 1/2?

yeah, civ4 is a turnbased game, but that makes it a little bit more predictable and the AI isn't too difficult (well, depending on the level ofcourse) I updated the pros and cons in my prev post.

Latest AoE is III I think, but after that AoM (mythology) came out. Btw, if you get civ4 we can play it together from time to time
