Thread: *NEW* Doom 4

Seems like ID Software is working on a new Doom game, called Doom4, as from what Todd Hollenshead, CEO of ID Software said into a press conferance in May 7, 2008:



Production has begun on DOOM 4™, the next journey into the legendary DOOM universe. We are expanding our internal team and are currently hiring to work on this highly anticipated title.
"DOOM is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "It's critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our titles."
The DOOM franchise is one of the most recognizable and important in gaming history, having been named "one of the ten most influential games of the decade" by PC Gamer and "the #1 game of all time" by GameSpy. DOOM 4 will join the award-winning series which has consistently topped sales charts throughout the world.




Carmack: Doom 4 Sports Better Graphics Than Rage; Uses id Tech 5, Lower Frame Rate

Though powered by the same id Tech 5 technology as id's open-world shooter Rage, Doom 4 will be so detailed that it appears to run on "a totally new game engine", according to id co-founder and software engineer John Carmack. The jump in graphical fidelity comes about as Doom 4 is targeted to run at 30 frames per second, whereas Rage will run at 60 frames per second. Carmack claims this allows id to throw "three times as much horsepower" at Doom 4.

"Doom 4 is going to be a 30Hz game," he told Maximum PC. "It's going to look like a totally new game engine on there, even though it's going to be built on the four years of effort that we spent developing this generation of technology."
No platform or release details have been revealed for Doom 4, which was unveiled in a surprise announcement earlier this year. However, the id Tech 5-powered Rage will arrive on PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Mac, suggesting similar platforms for Doom 4.
On the subject of id Tech 5, Carmack noted that the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 editions of the hardware can all use the exact same build with no issues, whereas the Mac engine requires an extra conversion step.
"We wanted to say OK, here's the build and run the same build on the PC, the 360, and the PS3," he explained. "We still have to go through one extra step to build it on the Mac. But it really does work that way on the other [console] platforms."

yeahhhhhhh bring the painnnnnnn...... doom3 was the shit.... innovative, dark and gorey... just the way a DOOM game outta b.... that will b on my have 2 buy list as well

I not here anything new about Doom...i think they working in secret at Doom....Doom 4 will be a f**king good game!

Doom 3 already was a good game Blaze. Doom 4 looks to be even better graphically. I can finally utilize my 2 GTX280s in SLI now. Yay!
