    Botnets?

Someone is probably going to want to hit me for making a thread about this general topic again, but my question was not answered properly in my last thread, so attempt #2.
I previously made a topic asking whether posting illegal content was against the forum's rules, but I should have been more specific.
Infecting computers with a botnet is highly illegal, as is what often comes from them, stealing data/money/internet usage, but owning the source code for a botnet is not illegal, as long as it is not distributed.
So, my revised question is whether a thread discussing the theory behind creating a botnet, without any source code being posted, would be against this forum's rules.
I just wished to confirm as many forums I know accept such content.

You can discuss the theory behind it, to the same extent as a site such as wikipedia, or similar, more on topic type site.

By illegal content, you think more about copyright, intellectual property, malicious software, etc.. which will not be tolerated.

So long as you're not giving instructions, providing examples or in anyway promoting botnets or anything similar, it is ok.

So giving vague steps that would instruct a user who is skilled in the required languages on how to make a botnet would be against the rules?

Correct, and anybody who would be to follow your instructions, would be breaking the law by accessing or using anything on a victims computer. And with the recent arrest related to botnets, i'd watch myself. No body likes spam, nor denial of service.

Botnets don't have to be about spam or DDoSing. Also owning the code is not illegal, only distributing it. But meh, forget it.
