Thread: prox y scripts

okay im thinking of setting up a prox y for my freinds only in school and am wonding if it can be done off a free or shared host ie i dont own the server ect

and a final thing out of all the opensource prox ies out there what is the best of them

If you use a proxy in a school or work place, you will probably get found out and it will be blocked.

Your best bet would be to use multiple, different proxies, from around the internet.

Otherwise, you could probably pull of a web proxy through shared hosting (Will be against Terms of Service). A dedicated/ vps would do it best. But that still may be against there terms of service.

Also, be sure to have a Terms of Service's of your own, taking a little responsibility, of the viewed content (if it is illegal) off your hands.

Also, i believe Proxy site hosting is now available (Hosting plans | Proxy Host).

deticated or vps would be the only way to get a unique IP right? cus thats how our school bans them (obv)

also the proxy would be for totally legal things like youtube facebook

You'll get an IP that the school can ban whatever you use..

If it is shared hosting, more people will have the IP, just means more sites will be banned.
If it is VPS or Dedicated, the IP will be yours and yours alone, so you alone will be banned (server).
Its costy to keep getting your IP changed.

Or school could ban the domain you use. And if they are really smart, they could whois it, get your info, trace it back to you = you in trouble.

You may think the proxy is used for legit things, but other people might abuse it. If its online, without limitations, anybody can use it.

im thinking of doing it private so only people i know will be using it
the domain i choose will appear to be a legit educational website like www.learnmathsfast.com (*example this is probly use already *)

Its not a bad price, but its a high price if the server gets banned, and becomes useless.

Contact the host, ask them if they are okay with a proxy.

Unmanaged, you okay to install everything? Php, Mysql, whatever needed? (If not installed)

Be careful, i doubt your school are stupid, your domain might not even show up on their logs, they might just get the IP. They might have network scanners, that will find a proxy.
A domain will trace back to you.
