Thread: Games and Piracy

Well, I would have posted this link in the chat box, but I don't know why its not working, and I can't be bothered right now to find out why, so I'll make a new topic

We've been hearing a lot about game piracy recently, with big developers inflicting draconian online-only DRM systems on their users, and blaming their declining PC game sales entirely on piracy. I'm not questioning that piracy is common, since even honest, DRM-free, indie developers like 2DBoy[1] report a 90% piracy rate. I am, however, questioning what this means. How much revenue are developers actually losing to piracy?

I don't think they lose that much. I'm always going to buy a game to support the developers IF I LIKE IT, AFTER I got it from torrents to test that "I like it or not" statement. So games taken from torrents are for me like an extended demo.

Same weed. The one game i didnt do that with was MW2... if i had just taken the two weeks to download and find out how much fail it was... i wouldnt have wasted 60$.

For me piracy is stealing.

Over 4 milion downloads.. it's alot, seriously. And it's only for pc. So... do u think, that they really want to make games for our console after that huge lost? Not really imHo.
I don't download pirate games, I don't have to play every new game, and if I want to, I just play the demo. Maybe some of u say, that everyone needs to break rules sometimes, ok ... but stealing? from internet? Maybe go to shop and take it, and if u won't like it, just give them back? Won't be so great?

This is why I bought my xbox. Ofcourse some of those people download games for it too, but I am not one of them. Keeping my money for game I really r e a l l y want to buy, and getting it, keeping the box on the desk, makes me proud.

it could have been 20 million. that's not the point. can you prove that none of those 4 million people who downloaded COD4 didn't bough it original after?

maybe some of them bought it for multiplayer, but I don't think, that most of them did. Well noone knows it.
But look at sims 3. Those who downloaded it, didn't have to buy it after all. Why? What's the point =3

sims is a worthless game. who wants a game where you sleep, eat, get old and die? just GET UP FROM YOUR CHAIR, SLEEP, EAT, GET OLD AND DIE. done
