Blunks will become famous soon enough

    Mapping, Terrain 01

    Rightt, 5th addition to the mapping tutorials;

When your making your maps, you want to be able to edit the ground, make parts bumby, etc... And its not all that easy to do that with a normall brush.

So, open up radient and make a bush that is 8x4:

Now, with it selected, go to Patch > Simple Terrain Patch

In the box, the width should be 9 and height 5. Notice this is 1 larger than the width we made at the start.

The brush we made should have gone totaly flat.

Make four copies of the patch (spacebar) and line 3 of them up, then with the forth place it directly on top of the middle one

But make sure, its totaly on, not like the picture above.

Right, for the tutorial, we're going to make a dirt road, so we'll use grass (Textures > Surface Type > Grass)

Now, select all the brushes, make sure the 4th is too and press V and move your left screen to 'YZ Side'
With ctrl held, drag and select the 5 middle pink/green dots. Once selected hold Left Atl and drag down 1 block.

Now, in the 3d panel, it looks like a little dip.

Now, find either the middle patch or the 4th and go Textures > Usage > Road and then Textures > Surface Type > All

And find the one that looks like a single dirt track:

First part over...we've created a road!
Note: when you add the Dirt track, it may show 4 tracks, not like the 2 in mine, if it does that, press s to bring the Surface Inspector up, first click Fit and it'll appear as one big Fat one. Now mess with the Horizontal/Verdical stretch till there is only two tracks. And finaly Use Horizontal/Verdical shift to center it, if you need to.

Now, we might want to make some little hills or bumbs, so to do this, make sure all the terrain you want to edit is selected and open the Adv Patch Editing Options (Y) and you'll see loads of options:

Select "Paint Height" (You can mess with the others by yourself, they all do the same type of thing)

when you over over the terrain, in the 3d view screen you'll see alittle target, Left click, hold and move it up and down and you'll notice the terain starts to go up, once finished, unhold and move and continue around.
