    What the hell?

    Hey all,

    So I was just playing some Call of Duty 4 on the FPSOverload S&D server, when a guy wallhacking enters the game. When I realised he was cheating, I left the game and found another server. I later came back but the cheater was still there, but I thought "What the hell?" and I joined the game. As I joined the game the cheater changed his nickname to... my nickname? What the hell? So if he get's caught cheating by an admin, does that I mean there's a possibility for me to get banned aswell if I join with the same nickname?

    dont worry dude, name changers are banned by their client number not their names

    Namechangers are tricky and we did have some accidents where a wrong player got permbanned. If this happens to you, you can always fill in a ban appeal.

    No worries though, thanks to B3 every single player (actually, every GUID) who joins (even those who don't register) have a unique ID number (this also allows admins to ban a player, EVEN if he's not online). Also every player on the server has a "unique" client ID (actually, it's the number of the player slot you took when you joined).

    When facing a "namechanger" or "namestealer" (that's how we call people who automatically change names) I always use the /rcon status command to see the list of players at one specific moment, then use it again. I try to see which player is changing names all the times, and when I know who it is, I permban the player using his client ID

    For example, to give you an idea

    Client ID -- Player
    0 -- GalakFyarr{BE}
    1 -- GhandiSeven
    2 -- GhandiSeven

    I redo the status command

    0 -- GalakFyarr {BE}
    1 -- GalakFyarr {BE}
    2 -- GhandiSeven

    I can see client 1 is changing names (most of the time I will do this more than once, just to be sure). Then it's just a matter of typing !permban 1 blahblah.

    hmm worked for me

    Oh ok. So I don't have to worry? Awesome! I don't have any knowledge on that topic, but sounds like you know what you're dealing with

    As we select admins really careful you can be sure that every admin knows what he does However, if you have any complaints or improvements we're glad to here them here in the forums

    I can edit your post though - cabry
