Thread: time for upgrade

my Pc is 5 years old now. that means it is many generations behind. well not that bad. as when something goes(blows up () is what happens to me XD) I replace it with as good as possible and affordable.

I currently have :

Intel Pentium 4 3.00GHz, 3.00GHz .......................CPU
2GB.................................................. .............RAM
GX750.................................................. ..........PSU
XFX GeForce 9600 GSO.....................................GPU
Foxconn P4M8907MB........................................MoBo
more than enough HDD's


now my problem (that is everybody's problem) is founds. That is why my Pc have not been upgraded. so I want to buy the "best" I possibly can, so that I can wait another 5 years. Now I hope to be able to get enough cash to be able to buy the following:

Intel Core i7-2600 3.4GHz LGA1155 32nm Quad-Core............CPU
ECS P67H2-A3 Intel LGA1155 ATX.....................................MoBo
G.Skill F3-10666CL9D-4GBXL 2x2GB DDR3-1333 Ripjaws-X......RAM

I want to keep my
GX750.................................................. ..........PSU
XFX GeForce 9600 GSO.......................................GPU

will it work? that is the question.

If you want to last another 5 years i would recommend upgrading your gpu to at least a 1gb card, my gtx460 is decent enought and was about £150 and i get pretty much constant 250fps on cod4. I can't recommend any other card because i dont know but a 1gb is a must have probably.

Add another 2gbs of ram too?

why a 2x2GB DDR 3 RAM ? There are also 4xGB RAM and you still have a slot to upgrade it again. Think about it ! In all cases check the frequencies they are working with. a 1333 MHz clock frequenzy is faster than a 1250 MHz. And one RAM with 4 GB works faster than a 2x2GB cause there just one component where data and processing-structures lead to ( caused by the shuffle of data between RAM, CPU and HDD ).

And i dunno if your MoBo supports PCIe-Express-Graphics-Cards. Or if your old graphics card is the old AGP-Slot, but i don't think so. ( and hope xD )

i suggest a 2x 4GB DDR-RAM because you don't need a quad-core-cpu if the Random Access Memory ain't fast enough to sort and organise the data and its processing, you max it out then. And you need to watch your power input, maybe you can't keep your PSU :/

nio that I found out the PSU has more than enough juice to handle it (they put 520-550W standard PSU's in gaming pc's here) my PSU has 750W that can peak at 900W I cant go higher than 750 because of the electrisity bill haha.

but I am glad you told me that I must get the other one m8 (was looking at the RAM adds while typing) so yea it is the 8GBXL 2x4GB [LOL] the 8GBXL costs R492 and the 4GBXL is R768 imo it is dumb to buy the 4GB I mean a R276 extra for double value XD the RAM is 1333MHz

GPU that would have been nice to upgrade but If I want to upgrade my GPU I cant get a i7 CPU
my budget do not allow me jet but I did upgrade my GPU in 2009 so maybe in the next 1-3 years will upgrade that
but I did look at them I had in mind:
Nvidia GeForce GT440; Nvidia GeForce GT240 or Forsa GeForce GTS450 would really like that one

LoL when I first googled the i7 I got the result i7-980X and nearly died man I thought that was what all the i7's cost

Look out for gpu-tests, sometimes the newest ones aren't the fastest.and n'vidia sometimes take old GPU and connect them with an new board and they're advertised as the newest shit in the gaming world. Read about it couple of days ago. But i don't get why the singleram costs half of double-Ram o.o i'm going to look when i'm online with my laptop. Btw i wanna create a new pc for me too, but it's going to be really expensive about 1500 €. dunno if i do it or just buy a new notebook.

you see I made a decision that I will use a budget of R4500 that is about 511 €. I will not spend more than that! then said I want to get the best I can for that amount. It works good.

the things I want to buy now end of the year will cost atm R4444 + R29 delivery (web order)
I am still under my budget. and then the price drop over 6 months. so I mighe even pay R4000.

I have seen Pc's that are awesome but so expensive man !! R29 999 (3,070 €) that is madness imho!

So what do you want to upgrade for 1500 €? [that is allot! R14,654??]

Edit : thanks I will keep in mind what you said about GPU's. But I am very happy with my XFX (LOL it is the most expensive part in my pc atm (in the context of what I payed for it).

Might be cheeper to get another one and run it SLI what do you guys think?

i want a new pc, not upgrading. so everything needs to be bought. Keyboard,screen,mouse,fans and tower-interieur.. i always buy the things to run games and programms the next 4-5 years.

imho that is a wast of money unless yours you have is F't if you know what I mean LOL and I will not easily get a new tower/box as mine is custom made by Psycho inc. hehe
but there are some great towers available nowadays
a few years back I really wanted this one (not sure if it is the correct model but you get the Idea) but my parents sayed I was insane if I think I am getting a PcBox that cost more than what is inside LOL but now that I am older I get their point LOL

i only have a notebook and play at the PC in the working-room of my father. So i need to buy my OWN PC. you know ? :q cause there is no upgrade available or sth like that :q

ahhh ok I now understand but If I may give you some advice (I think you know) Desktops are the best way to go in computers
laptops/notebooks are meant for work mobility you get for gaming but they are very costly. so rather buy a desktop

Do like I did with my first pc go to the store look at your new toy in awe and realize that hand full of money you must give to that man over there close your eyes hand it over...
