    Pretty massive pc issue :(

ok so yesterday i was playing cod, then i start to lose fps.. goes down to what is normally constant 250 to a constant 8-9 fps. Then loads of what seem to be dead pixels jump around, multicoloured ones fly everywhere and everthing lags out, ending in a crash.

I restart try again the same happens, so i try a very less memory consuming game such as minecraft xD/ this happens also. And windows is forced to shutdown due to driver issues.

So i think ill update my drivers to some 3d nvidia shizzel which was just released. And this doesn't help at all.
I uninstall all drivers and just get the default nvidia 8800 ultra ones. This still happens.

The crashed only happen when running kind of graphical shit, e.g i put galaks video full screen and it crashes...

If your chatbox update is related to this thread, than ignore below.

I see you tried re-installing the drivers, but I think you should download the last WHQL (not beta) driver from the official Nvidia site:
    Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
Uninstall all other video card drivers before you install the new one!

If this does not solve it, you can still hope it's 'just' a virus, so run a scan.

If that fails, take it to your tech shop and have it tested, it might have memory errors, which can only be fixed by a new video card.

I searched for that error message and found two threads on the nVidia forum:
nvidia driver stop responding then recovers instantly - NVIDIA Forums
The nvlddmkm error - What is it? - NVIDIA Forums

I'm sorry, I haven't read them through, but you might find your solution there.
I still think it's just a corrupt driver install.

    Edit:
Minecraft can also be breaking it...
    http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewto...p?f=17&t=66181

More proof it might be the driver problem:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/743415?tstart=0

Maybe you should install an older driver.
Install a WHQL driver that is older than the one which was on when you started to get the error.

Since I'm not there I can not test it.. but it seems your GPU might be overheating because of a driver update, even if you removed it via the Uninstaller, some remnants may still remain.
NVIDIA Forums > Display Driver, stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

Try running GPU-Z and test your videocard, or:
    "phylanx
Might be a good idea to uninstall your current driver, then use DriverSweeper and reinstall the driver."
"Exactly what I did... I used driver sweeper to wipe everything and installed the 258.96 drivers fresh out. Weird..."

    Here's the lnk for GPU-Z:
    techPowerUp! :: Downloads
    And for DriverSweeper:
    Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

Just be careful what driver you remove.
Before you start, you could switch the PC off for an hour or so, so it cools down.

And... most of the people with this problem bought a new card... I hope it won't come to that, but if it does, I suggest buying ATI... all new nVidias can be used to fry eggs.

lol massive edit !!, i said that before your last post.

ill try all of these things you have sugested and some ive found. And tbh i could be the card, its pretty old.
So it may come to me having to buy a new one :0

    Update:

no unusual gpu temperature spikes when the crashes/ weird colours ect start.

I am now out of safe mode, and can use anything but games atm, this is after reinstalling the driver i had at the start and pulling out my web cam lol.

after back restoring to before it happened, i found that it wasn't to do with windows updates corrupting the drivers,

So i tryied a different card ( my bros xD) and it works, so hopefully the 8800 u still has a 10year warranty so i can get it repaired )

...it was the card... Thanks guys ) <3

on other thoughts bfg went bust a few months back LOL, new card for me
